President’s Message
Liz Wallace, 2011-2012 Booster President
August 28, 2011
Hello, Hoover Band Boosters!
I am writing this letter the day after
an immensely successful event took place at Hoover
High School. The Hoover High School Band and the
Band Boosters were an integral and important part
of the success of that event, and I’m feeling a
great deal of pride right now at what was
accomplished. I am extremely thankful that my
child has the opportunity to be part of such an
exceptional music education program, and that this
program enjoys the support of such a hardworking
Booster organization.
As a parent of a Hoover Band student,
you ARE a Hoover Band Booster. The organization
charges no membership dues. Other than the
school-required class fee of $180, it costs
nothing for parents simply to be members of the
organization. We meet monthly to disseminate
information about the band, and to plan and
execute our stated purpose. That purpose is to
arouse interest in and support for the Hoover
Band, and to raise funds so that we may
financially aid in its endeavors, including
purchase of some instruments, uniforms, props,
music, and an array of other materials needed by
the band and auxiliaries.
The Hoover Band program is highly
successful and well-recognized, but Director of
Bands Ryan Fitchpatrick and all the band staff are
setting even higher goals for the band as a whole,
and all its ensembles and auxiliaries. The Hoover
Band is going great places and rising to new
heights in the coming years. As band parents who
support those goals, we have much to do. A band
program such as ours is expensive, and in order to
defray the cost to individual families, and keep
required fees low, fundraising is a part of our
band lives. The Boosters offer an array of
choices so that you may do all you can to help
financially. You may choose to donate your time.
I believe that every parent can find a place to
contribute to the organization’s stated
purpose. Whatever your gifts, talents, interests,
and no matter what your time and financial
constraints, there is a place for you to help.
On October 15, 2011, the Hoover Band
Boosters will host the 30th Annual
Hoover Invitational Marching Festival. This event
raises, in one day, a large portion of our annual
budget. This event’s success depends on the
volunteer participation of every Band Booster. I
strongly urge you to contact our 1st
Vice-President, Chris Moore, or our 2nd
Vice-President, Cindy Blake, and ask how you can
help.
Great things are in store for the band
for the entire year. Football season is on, the
band will be competing in two out-of-state
marching contests, and our own Invitational is
right around the corner. The jazz bands will pack
the house on Fine Arts Night. All the students
will show their excellence in the concert setting
with a Holiday Concert in December. Those things
are only the beginning.
I am excited about the great things to
come for the Hoover Band. I am anxious to get to
know each and every one of you as members of our
“band family.” Thank you for all you have done,
and will continue to do for the band. Whether
they admit it or not, your children are thrilled
when you are involved in their activity.
Please feel free to contact me if I
can be of any service to you. GO HOOVER BAND!
Sincerely,
Liz Wallace, President
Hoover Band Boosters
