Who are the Hoover Band Boosters?
All parents of band members, Color Guard
and the Buccanettes are automatically members of the Hoover Band
Boosters. Relatives and friends are welcome to participate in Band
Booster activities.
Are there any dues required for Band Booster
membership?
No, there are no financial dues, but the Band
Boosters depend your support.
What is the purpose of the Band Boosters?
Band Boosters provide much of the labor
that is needed to "get the show on the field". Boosters also help to
provide for the financial needs of our students by staffing concessions
and the marching festival. Band Boosters do not interfere with the band
directors or the school administration in day to day activities.
How is the organization run?
Band Boosters are led by an elected slate
of officers who compose the executive board. The executive board follows
the by-laws of the organization. The executive board typically meet
prior to the general meetings. Board meetings are open to any booster
member.
My student has been given several fundraising
opportunities. Who benefits from the profits?
Your student. The Band Boosters do not
get "a cut" of the profits. Fundraisers are provided as a way for
students to defray the cost the annual band trip. An individual account
is kept for each student. All profits from student sales go into their
individual accounts and are subtracted from that student’s cost of the
band trip. Many students in the past have earned 100% of their trip
cost. Band Booster income comes from concessions and the Marching
Festival.
What is a Marching
Band Competition? If our Festival represents over half of the annual
budget, is it a required event?
Bands perform shows for a panel of
judges, competing in categories based on their size. Attending marching
band competitions is an excellent way for our students to see other
schools with strong band programs perform their shows. Because of the
outstanding reputation our Festival enjoys, we have over 30 bands
competing with an overall attendance of around 13,000. It takes Band
Boosters and band students working together to do everything that needs
to be done.
Band Boosters raise
significant funds through the Festival and concessions. What is this
money used for?
Band booster funds purchase instruments,
uniforms, and field props as they need to be replaced or added. We rent
the trucks to move the band equipment for games and contests. We provide
water and soft drinks to students at football games. We also help with
the maintenance and repair of school-owned instruments as well as
contest and honor band registration fees. We provide recognition awards
at the annual band banquet.
How can I help?
The Band Boosters always need your help.
We need approximately 30 - 40 chaperones for every time the band boards
the buses. We need 30 people to work the concession stands at a football
game at the high school. We need 80 people to work the concession stands
at a football game at The Hoover Met. We need over 300 people to work at
the Hoover Invitational Marching Festival. To find out more about areas
where we need your help and to volunteer, please
